Dumbbell Walking Lunge

Starting position for the Dumbbell Walking Lunge
Starting position — Dumbbell Walking Lunge

Why it matters

The Walking Lunge builds strength and size in your quadriceps, glutes and hamstrings. As a compound movement, it trains several muscles together and carries over to real-world strength and power.

How to do it

  1. Choose a pair you can control for every planned rep and get them into position cleanly.
  2. Take a stride long enough that both knees can reach about ninety degrees.
  3. Set your torso tall and your ribs down before the first rep.
  4. Step into the stride and lower straight down rather than forward.
  5. Lower until your back knee is just off the floor.
  6. Drive up through your front foot to return to standing.
