Band Front Squat

Starting position for the Band Front Squat
Starting position — Band Front Squat

Why it matters

The Front Squat builds strength and size in your quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings and rectus abdominis. As a compound movement, it trains several muscles together and carries over to real-world strength and power.

How to do it

  1. Anchor the band securely, check there is no slack at the start, and expect the tension to rise through the range.
  2. Set your feet about shoulder-width with your toes turned out slightly.
  3. Take a full breath into your belly and brace before you descend.
  4. Break at the hips and knees together and lower under control.
  5. Descend until your thighs reach at least parallel to the floor.
  6. Drive through the middle of your foot to stand back up.
