Starting position — Medicine Ball Slam

Why it matters

The Medicine Ball Slam builds strength and size in your rectus abdominis and front deltoids. As a compound movement, it trains several muscles together and carries over to real-world strength and power.

How to do it

  1. Pick a ball weight you can control and clear the space around you before you start.
  2. Set a stable, athletic base with your feet under your hips.
  3. Load your hips and take a breath before the explosive rep.
  4. Be explosive on the way up, moving the load or your body as fast as possible.
  5. Absorb the landing or return softly through your hips and knees.
  6. Reset to a stable, balanced position before the next rep.
